On January 24, 2020, Alfonso Heggs, age 25, of Millville, was found guilty by a Cumberland County Jury of the following offenses:
- Aggravated Manslaughter, 1st degree;
- Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose, 2nd degree; and
- Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, 2nd
The jury acquitted Heggs of Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder, 1st degree.
On April 10, 2017, Millville Police and members of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office responded to a shooting death at 616 Dock Street in the City of Millville. The victim, Charles Boozer, was located in the street, deceased from a gunshot wound. A joint investigation by the Millville Police Department and Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office led to the determination that Alfonso Heggs had shot and killed Charles Boozer. The gun Mr. Heggs used to shoot and kill Mr. Boozer was located in Mr. Heggs’ bedroom.
The defendant faces 10-30 years in New Jersey State Prison for the offenses, of which he must serve 85% of his sentence.
